ESB has a portfolio of over 300MW of operating battery storage projects and a 300MW pumped storage plant in Ireland. Fergal is responsible for the origination and  business case development of batteries/energy storage for ESB and is responsible for a pipeline of around 1GW of energy storage projects at various stages of development.  

Fergal has over thirty years experience in leading electricity generation and transmission projects.  He was responsible for a range of transmission projects in the 1990s and 2000s and was an overhead line technology specialist. In 2010 Fergal took on responsibility for the development of ESB’s land portfolio of wind farm projects.  Since 2016 he has led the development of new flexible generation projects before concentrating more recently on energy storage.
